Attackers on Tripura community won’t be spared: CHT Adviser
DHAKA, Dec 26, 2024 (BSS) – CHT Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma warned no one will be spared, who are found involved in attacking the houses belonging to Tripura Christian community members.
“Those who will resort to arson attacks and burning houses will face stern action,” he said after visiting the Tripura community members who became victim of arson attacks at Lama of Bandarban Hill District.
He strongly condemned the arson attacks on Tripura community members and said the culprits will be brought to book.
The adviser directed local administration and police department to arrest the culprits immediately through proper investigation.
He also asked the police force to ensure security of the affected community members alongside providing necessary assistance from the government.
Meanwhile, Bandarban District authority is providing necessary cooperation to reconstruct the houses damaged in the fire incident.
The adviser also said his ministry will give necessary assistance to help the affected people.
Police have arrested four people over the incident.
Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban district, Shah Mujahid Uddin, and Bandarban Superintendent of Police Shahidullah Kawser already visited the 19 families whose makeshift homes were torched in the attack.
The district authorities have provided immediate food and relief materials to the families, said a statement issued by the chief adviser's press wing.
District authorities have said the affected families have permanent homes in a nearby village in Lama, and the torched homes were their makeshift "Tong" homes.
Police said an FIR has been filed over the arson incident.
A Tripura community elder who filed the FIR has accused six rival Tripura Christian community members and a Bengali Muslim over the incident.
Preliminary police investigations have found that the arson could be linked to a long-running rivalry between two groups of Tripura community members.
Police are seriously probing the incident and have stepped up efforts to arrest the culprits.
The government has asked police to unearth the motive behind the attack at the earliest possible time.
