DHAKA, Dec 26, 2024 (BSS) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Police Commissioner (Logistics, Finance and Procurement) Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali today said checking crimes would be much easier if the people remain beside police.
“People are one of the most supportive forces in controlling crime and maintaining the law and order. Controlling crimes will be much easier if such supportive force stays by our side,” he said.
He made the remarks as the chief guest while exchanging view with citizen Forum at a local restaurant in Dhanmondi today.
The Additional Police Commissioner said that they are going to every police station under DMP to hear the residents of the respective areas to prepare an outline for effective use of police in maintaining the law and order.
“We are talking to respected citizens. We are seeking opinions and suggestions from them so that an outline on how the police will work in the coming days can be drawn up. After the August 5 changeover, the people have stood by the police. We want to work with the people,” he said.
He said that Bangladesh police is an organization governed by the laws and rules.
“None of us is above accountability. What we can do or not, all our activities are within accountability. Our accountability is to you. How much security and service we can provide to you is our accountability. We do not want to be oppressive police, we want to be the people's police. We want to build this country beautifully with you,” he said.
For the Citizen Forum, the Additional Police Commissioner also said, “You should keep an eye on whether there is a backup of the CCTV in your home and institution.”
“So that if any incident happens later, we can take the help of that CCTV,” he added.
The students, the public and the respected citizens under Dhanmondi Police Station area present at the view exchange meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Mezbah Uddin Khan, a resident of Dhanmondi area said, "Thank you for organizing the exchange meeting. We want the administration and the people to work together.
This will make it easier to eradicate drugs and extortion. We assure you of our full cooperation.”
Officials of various ranks of the DMP's Ramna Division, leaders of various political, social, professional, religious organizations, heads of educational institutions and leaders of student movements were present at the meeting.
