DHAKA, Oct 18, 2021 (BSS) – Agriculture Minister and Awami League Presidium Member Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaque today termed the killers of Sheikh Russel as animals and sewer worms, saying that no human being can brutally kill an innocent baby like Sheikh Russel.

“Those who brutally killed an innocent child like Sheikh Russel are not human beings. They are sewer worms,” he said while addressing a discussion as the chief guest.

The Ministry of Agriculture organized the discussion at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) Auditorium in the city’s Farmgate area marking the first Sheikh Russel Day.

The Cabinet Division decided to observe the Sheikh Russel Day from this year on October 18, the birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s youngest son Sheikh Russel.
Razzaque urged all to take oath and be united so that such killing can never take place in Bangladesh in the future.

Noting that enemies of the humanity and fanatic communal forces are still active in the country and working against Bangladesh, the minister also urged all to remain alert about the propaganda and falsehood about religions.

Bangabandhu had compared those who support communalism with animals, he said, adding, “We have to resist this evil force and uprooted from the country at any cost.”

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Md Mesbahul Islam presided over the discussion while Additional Secretary (admin) Wahida Akter delivered welcome address in the programme.

Additional Secretary of the ministry Md Hasanuzzaman Kallol, BARC Executive Chairman Dr Shaikh Mohammad Bokhtiar, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) Chairman Dr Amitavh Sarker, Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Director General Md Asadullah and former DAE director general Hamidur Rahman spoke at the discussion, among others.

Before joining the discussion, Dr Abdur Razzaque cut a cake and planted a palm sapling on the BARC premises, marking the birthday of Sheikh Russel.

Earlier, the minister along with ministry officials placed floral wreaths at the grave of Sheikh Russel at Banani Graveyard in the morning here.
