Rumor Scanner debunks video of singing of assistant-coordinator at Bangladesh concert

DHAKA, Dec 26, 2024 (BSS) - Fact checking organization Rumor Scanner in an investigation found that a video of Indian actress Nandini Dutta’s song at a festival in her country is being falsified as a musical performance of a female assistant-coordinator of anti-discrimination students’ movement or a scene of the BPL inaugural ceremony.

In a report published on its website on Thursday, the fact-checking body said a video of a woman singing on stage was recently circulated on social media, claiming that a female assistant-coordinator is singing Kolkata movie song “Pyarelal Re” at a concert in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) inaugural ceremony and music fest was held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka on December 23.

Rumor Scanner team revealed that the circulated video is neither a scene of an assistant-coordinator’s singing performance nor a scene of the BPL inaugural ceremony.

In an investigation, a probable original video was found on a Facebook page named ‘Panihati Festival and Book Fair’, which was published on December 23 with the caption “Our favorite heroine won everyone’s hearts by singing the song Pyarelal.” However, the video did not mention the identity of the woman singing on stage.

After reviewing the Facebook page, the team found that Panihati Festival and Book Fair is being held from December 20 to December 31 at Amarabati Maidan in Sodepur, West Bengal, India. Various events are being organized here, including a book fair, cultural
festival, food park, self-employment gallery, industrial and commercial gallery, art gallery, photography exhibition, flower exhibition, drawing competition, Panihati Sri, free medical camps and seminars.

Further investigation revealed a news report published in the Indian media Hindustan Times Bangla on December 23 titled “Nandini: ‘Pyarelal has been paralyzed singing the song!, Netpara burst into laughing at the song of Nandini, famous for Dui Shalik.”

A screenshot of the video was also attached to the news report. It is known from the report that Nandini Dutta, one of the actresses of Star Jalsa’s popular serial Dui Shalik, came as a guest at the Panihati Book Fair. She sang the hit song from the film Dui Prithibi on stage. A video has been posted by the Panihati Festival and Book Fair page. There, the actress of Dui Shalik serial is seen wearing a black jacket, black pants and singing with a microphone in her hand. She is singing by looking at the phone she is holding.

It is also known from the report that the woman singing is Indian actress Nandini Dutta. The same information is also known from the reports published on the websites of news portals TV9 Bangla and Aaj Kaal.

Moreover, a comparison of Nandini Dutta's face with the woman shown in the circulated video also reveals a resemblance, further confirming that the woman singing in the circulated video is Indian actress Nandini Dutta.

So, the claim that the circulated video is a scene of singing of an assistant-coordinator of the anti-discrimination movement or a scene from a concert at the BPL inauguration ceremony is false, the fact checking body concluded.
