Another high-powered committee formed to probe secretariat building fire

DHAKA, Dec 26, 2024 (BSS) - The government today formed another high-powered committee to investigate into the fire in number 7 building at the secretariat here.

The eight-member investigation committee headed by senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, has been asked to submit its initial report by December 30 next and full report by 10 working days.

The Cabinet Division today issued a notification to this end.

The committee has been entrusted with revealing the source and cause of the fire and also to reveal whether any personal or professional responsibility behind the fire incident.

The committee will send recommendations for the prevention of such accidents and regarding the overall security of the secretariat.

The Committee may co-opt one or more members if necessary.

Seven other members of the committee are: Inspector General of Police, Bangladesh Police, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Public Works,
Dr. Tanvir Manjur, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET),
Brigadier General Mahbubur Russell, Commandant CMTD,
Dhaka Cantonment,
Dr. Md. Yasir Arafat Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, BUET, . Yasir Arafat, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, BUET, and Director General, Department of Fire Service and Civil Defense (Member-Secretary).

The government earlier today formed a  seven-member probe committee, led by Mohammad Khaled Rahim, additional secretary (district and field administration).

The committee has been asked to submit its report by seven working days.

The fire broke out in building No. 7 at the secretariat here around 1:52 am today.
The fire was completely doused at  11:45 am.
