DHAKA, Dec 26, 2024 (BSS) – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed three cases against former state minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid, his wife Seema Hamid and son Zareef Hamid on charge of abusing power and amassing wealth illegally.
“ACC found information of Nasrul’s unusual and suspicious transactions involving 98 bank accounts, with a total deposit of Taka 3,181 crore and withdrawals amounting to Taka 3,180 crore,” ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain told journalists at a press briefing here today.
Akhter Hossain said, “A case has been filed against Nasrul Hamid under the relevant sections of the ACC Act, 2004 , the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012 and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 for transferring and converting money or property obtained through corruption and bribery to conceal its illegal source”.
According to the case statement, Nasrul Hamid, also stands accused of using his position to amass assets worth Tk 36.37 crore, which are inconsistent with his known sources of income.
In the second case, Nasrul Hamid's son, Zarif Hamid, has been implicated along with his father in misusing power to illegally acquire assets worth Tk 20.88 crore with suspicious transitions involving 20 bank accounts, with a total deposit of Taka 27.72 crore and withdrawals amounting to Taka 17.41crore.
They have been charged under the same legal provisions for financial misconduct and concealment of illicit assets.
Besides, in another case, Nasrul Hamid's wife, Seema Hamid, along with Nasrul Hamid, is accused of acquiring assets worth Tk 6.94 crore through illegal means, using Nasrul Hamid’s power for personal gain.
They are alleged to have conducted suspicious transactions across 20 bank accounts, with a total deposit of Taka 12.78 crore and withdrawals of Taka 11.18 crore.
