6 human traffickers held in Kamrangirchar 

DHAKA, Dec 27, 2024 (BSS) - Police in separate drives arrested six human traffickers for their alleged involvement in human trafficking from 
the city's Kamrangirchar area.

The arrested were Mamun, 35, Faisal, 30, Bristy, 22, Dilara Begum, 50, Md Sohag Hossain, 34 and Md Ripon alias Apan, 32.

Police said, based on a human trafficking case, a victim, Baby Akhtar ,26, has been living with her husband Rabiul Kazi in a rented house at Jhauchar in Kamrangirchar area for about a year. 

Her husband Rabiul is a shoemaker. Baby Akhter met Sohag, a neighbouring tenant involved in event management programmes. Later, Sohag introduced Baby Akhtar with Mamun and Bristy, a couple who worked as dancers in various programmes.

Baby met another dancer Apan through Mamun and Bristy. They all lived together in a rented house of the area, the case detail said.

It said victim Baby Akhtar used to make videos on TikTok and looking for work to earn money on her own. Mamun's wife Bristy and her mother-in-law Dilara Begum often lured victim Baby Akhtar by promising to get her a job abroad. 

They lured Baby Akhtar by giving to Tk. 40,000 per month for working in a parlour in Mumbai, India and suggested her to run away from home without her husband's knowledge, it added. 

Police said about the case in good faith, Baby Akhtar left home without informing anyone. Mamun, his wife Bristy, mother-in-law Dilara Begum, Sohag and Apan helped Mamun for trafficking Baby to India. 

Faisal, the main mastermind of the human trafficking ring, sent Baby Akhtar to Satkhira by SP Golden Paribahan from Shyamoli Counter at 7:30 am on December 20, 2024 to smuggle her to India, they said. 

When Baby Akhtar reached Satkhira around 5 pm, other members of the trafficking gang took her away and smuggled her to India by boat between 10 pm and 12 am night. 

Later, police of Hasnabad police station in North 24 Parganas, bordering Satkhira, arrested Baby Akhtar and some others, while they were trying to go to Mumbai. Indian police sent them to the hospital for primary treatment. 

Baby Akhtar, received treatment in Hasnabad area, contacted her family and informed them about her trafficking to India. 

In this connection, the victim's sister Champa Begum filed a case under the Human Trafficking (Prevention and Suppression) Act with Kamrangirchar Police Station on December 24, 2024.

Later, Kamrangirchar Police conducted a series of raids to nab Mamun's mother-in-law Dilara Begum, Sohag and Apan and Faisal, the mastermind of human trafficking gang. Police also arrested Mamun and his wife Bristy from Chandpur area and later others on December 26.

During the investigation of the case, police identified accused with the help of intelligence agencies and technology. 

Primary interrogation, Mamun confessed about his involvement in human trafficking activities, while Faisal (several cases against him) was already acquainted with Mamun and connected with an international human trafficking ring. 

Mamun joined the gang with the help of his wife Bristy, mother-in-law Dilara Begum, Sohag and Apan. Mamun received get Tk. 20,000 for trafficking each girl.

Legal action against the arrestees is under process. Operations are continuing to arrest others.
