CHT adviser visits Lama to inspect burnt houses

BANDARBAN, Dec 27, 2024 (BSS) - Adviser to the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Supradip Chakma today visited arson damaged Tripura houses at Purba Betchhara Para of Sarai Union in Lama upazila of the district.

"We must be careful that none can spread a new conspiracy regarding the hilly areas, as a conspiracy is going on in the country," he said.

The adviser said there can be conspiracies inside and outside to destroy communal harmony, adding, "We must remember that neighbouring Myanmar is not very far from here. Across the border, their internal turmoil is going on."

He said the law enforcement agencies and the hilly people must be careful that the chaos of Myanmar won't enter Bangladesh.

Criticizing the previous Awami League (AL) government, Supradip Chakma said, "AL government did not consider the security of all the hilly people on equal basis. There has been political discrimination too. We are all citizens of Bangladesh."

The interim government is deeply committed to ensuring equal rights for everyone and wanted to restore the rights of all of this country, he said.

During his visit, the adviser was accompanied by Bandarban Hill District Council Chairman Professor Thanjama Lusai, Deputy Commissioner Shah Mozahid Uddin, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shahidullah Kawsar, and officials from various government and private sectors.

A fire broke out in 16 homes at Purba Betchhara Para on Tuesday night.

During the incident residents of the neighborhood were at the church for Christmas celebrations.

A case was filed with Lama Police Station on Wednesday night and police arrested four people.
