CHATTOGRAM, Dec 27, 2024 (BSS) - Hinting a mystery behind the yesterday's inferno at secretariat building, Religious Affairs Adviser Dr A F M Khaled Hossain has questioned about existence of a dog at the 6th floor of such a well-secured facilities at midnight as it was not at all a cooking place.
"Investigation is being carried out by a number of high powered committees besides intelligent agencies to unearth the incident of arson and none will be spared from legal punishments if found responsible behind the incident," he said at a function in the port city this afternoon.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a commemoration meeting at Jamiatul Ulum Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa in the city. The memorial meeting was organized by in reminiscence of eminent scientist Prof. Jamal Nazrul Islam.
Inaugurated by Chattogram City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Vice Chancellor of Chattogram University Prof. Dr. Yahiya Akter, Cultural Councilor of Iranian embassy in Dhaka Syed Reza Mir Mohammadi and Ctg divisional additional commissioner NuruLlah Nuri spoke at the function as special guests with founder superintendent of the Madrasha Mufti Allama Izherul Islam Chowdhury in the chair.
Prof Jamal Nazrul Islam Srithi Sangsad arranged the function.
Dr. Khaled said interim government has assume power only five months back but it had to face numerous challenges one after another like attack on religious places , provoked clash between tribal and non-tribal people while set fire on the houses of secretaries at Iskaton and Segun Bagicha before latest arson on secretariat building.
"We have no intention to stay in power forever but we have taken the responsibility to create congenial atmosphere so that an elected government could assume the power" he said adding that people of the country will have the opportunity to exercise their voting rights after 17 years.
Work to prepare voter list will be began from January 1 followed by re-demarcation of constituencies, the adviser said adding that a free and fair election to be held after completion of those important work.
Paying rich tributes to noted astrological scientist and mathematics Prof. Jamal Nazrul Islam, the adviser said Prof. Islam returned back to country for teaching profession leaving quite lavish life facilities due to his affection to the motherland and spirit of patriotism.
