DHAKA, Dec 27, 2024 (BSS) - BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed today said the fire broke out at the Secretariat soon after the investigation into corruption of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her family members began.

"Fire at the Secretariat is not an isolated incident. Anti-democratic forces and the allies of the fallen dictatorship are still working in various ways. Various incidents are worrying and frightening the people of the whole country," he said at a discussion at Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) auditorium in Kakrail here.

SSC Batch of '88, who believe in nationalist ideals, organized the discussion.

Noting that the Secretariat is the highly secured government office, Rizvi said many files have been burnt in the fire there. The most controversial and corrupt former cabinet secretary's file was also burnt in the fire which is mysterious, he said.

"Today, people across the country are in suspicion. Because, I noticed on Wednesday an advisor to the interim government summoned several files from Sheikh Hasina's close associates. As a result, such incidents have occurred in the secretariat. These incidents are not isolated," he said.

Rizvi said allies of fascist Sheikh Hasina and those who nurtured and supported the Awami League, who served in the administration wearing the Mujib coat, are still holding various positions in the secretariat now.

He questioned why these officials who were beneficiaries of the previous government would cooperate with the interim government. They are trying to frustrate the interim government through various manipulations, he said.

Noting that election is a part of democracy, the BNP leader said reforms should continue and elections should also be held.
