DHAKA, Dec 27, 2024 (BSS) – Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Adviser Md Nahid Islam today said stern actions will be taken against the bureaucrats who violate service rules in the name of protests as well as corrupt bureaucrats of the previous regime.
“We had a meeting on this matter even today. Stern measures will come in the next week. Actions will certainly be taken against the bureaucrats who violated service rules in the name of protests”, said Nahid Islam, also adviser to the Information and Broadcasting ministry.
The adviser was addressing the closing session of the first day of National Dialogue 2024 titled "Unity, Reform, and Elections" organised by the Forum for Bangladesh Studies at the Krishibid Institute in Dhaka's Khamarbari here today.
Nahid warned that actions will also be taken against the Bureaucrats from the previous regime. “We have identified the Bureaucrats from the previous regime who are hiding in various ways. Actions will also be taken against them soon”.
The adviser said, “In recent times, we have been hearing statements from bureaucrats. They are issuing one kind of threat. They gained this audacity in the previous regime when we saw the bureaucracy being strengthened to establish fascism using bureaucratic dependence”.
Addressing the issues of bureaucrats, Nahid acknowledged the government's widespread public support along with pointing out its administrative limitations.
He said, “We are calling upon bureaucrats: this is the time to serve the people and to support a proper democratic transition. So many lives were not sacrificed for playing games with protests or protecting group interests.”
“Everyone will get justice, if reforms are implemented. Bureaucrats will also have a voice in these reforms, and their opinions will be heard”, he said adding, “However, the reaction they have shown after placing reform proposals, was neither morally nor legally justified. They have violated the official norms”.
Nahid Islam highlighted the positive harmony and consensus between the government and political parties, noting, "At the same time, they are criticizing the government's mistakes and limitations. We are trying to address those issues."
Replying to a query on the Interim government’s activities, the adviser said, “The type of government formed after the mass uprising cannot be clearly defined. In one sense, it is not a constitutional government, and in another sense, it is not a revolutionary government either. The interim government is going through a transitional period”.
Nahid expected to uphold the unity which was witnessed during the uprising as well as in post uprising period while forming the interim government and said, “We are prioritizing the reform activities as the concept of reforms came through struggle in the streets for the last 15 years which was also realized by all the political parties and countrymen”.
“This is the way we can complete the transitional period through strengthening democratic institutions, formulating sustainable foreign policy as well as policies for economy, education and health,” he added.
