DHAKA, Dec 28, 2024 (BSS) - BNP Chairperson's Adviser Zainul Abedin Farroque today called upon the government to remove all allies of the past dictator from the Secretariat as a conspiracy is underway to thwart the government.
"The allies of dictator were not removed from the Secretariat. Not only fire, the conspirators can play a more dangerous game, as they are trying to thwart the government," he told a protest rally organized by the Trinamool Nagorik Andolon in front of the Jatiya Press Club here demanding the arrest of cohorts of Awami League government.
The BNP leader said some are conspiring to bring back deposed premier Sheikh Hasina to power again. "But this cannot be allowed to happen. We cannot betray with the blood of the martyrs of mass uprising. If we want to keep the nation united, the government must quickly announce the election roadmap," he said.
Farroque said Sheikh Hasina never listened to the people and her plan was to destroy the BNP but she herself has fled.
"Now an anarchic situation is being created in the country one after another. There is doubt in the public mind whether these incidents are a conspiracy to bring an authoritarian government to power," he said.
The BNP leader said they do not want elections like those in 2014, 2018 and 2024. "Our leader Tarique Rahman has said that we want elections in which dead people will not vote. There will be no 'night voting'. People will cast their vote for the person of their choice. There must be an election in which 152 candidates will not be elected unopposed," he said.
President of host organization Mofizur Rahman Liton chaired the rally which was moderated by Krishak Dal central leader Abdullah Al Naeem.
Krishak Dal assistant general secretary Masuk Mia, office secretary Shafiqul Islam, Bangladesh Ganotantrik Party organizing secretary Mir Amir Hossain Amu, Krishak Dal religious affairs secretary Quader Siddiqui and Matsyajibi Dal's Ismail Hossain Siraji spoke at the event.
