Moyeen Khan mourns demise of Manmohan

DHAKA, Dec 29, 2024 (BSS)- BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan has described late former Indian premier Dr Manmohan Singh as the architect of India's modern economic infrastructure saying he had shown the courage and the foresight to open up India's massive economic potential to the rest of the world.

In a letter to Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka following the demise of the ex-prime minister of India, Moyeen Khan said, “It is with a heavy heart that I received the news of the sad demise of Manmohan Singh, former prime minister and finance minister of India.”

He said decades after India's Independence, Dr Singh’s farsightedness and courageous role helped India reap the utmost benefit of the global free market economy allowing the rest of the world to be aware of the enormous strength of the internal productivity dynamics as well as the intellectual potential of India.

“In a way, he completely transformed India out of autarky into the global economy as a formidable force to be taken note by the western super powers which led to the image of India what it is today as a global authority,” Moyeen Khan noted.

Recalling his interaction with Dr Singh on a number of occasions Moyeen Khan said, Dr Singh asked Moyeen Khan, the then cabinet minister, what he would do when he would no longer be with the government.

Moyeen Khan sensed two insights into this, but without going into specifics, he responded, "I would be doing exactly the same as you would be while no longer in the government.”

Dr Singh smiled saying, "I want to go back to the academics."

“I also replied, "That's also my wish,” Moyeen Khan recalled, saluting Dr Manmohan Singh as a great Indian of the modern age.

In the letter, Moyeen Khan also requested the Indian envoy to convey his message of grief to his country’s government and the people.
