DHAKA, Dec 30, 2024 (BSS) - The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change will conduct mobile courts against the bursting of fireworks, firecrackers, and release of lanterns on December 31st night during the New Year celebrations.
A notification sent by the ministry today said that as these activities are punishable offences according to the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules, 2006, violation of the law for the first time can be punished with one month in jail or a fine of Tk. 5,000 or both, while repeated offenses can be punished with six months in jail or a fine of Tk. 10,000 or both.
The notification said the ministry also sent letters to all clubs in the capital and relevant various organizations requesting them to refrain from such activities that are harmful to public health.
It added everyone is requested to refrain from bursting fireworks, firecrackers, and releasing lanterns during English New Year 2025, said the notification.
The notification stated that fireworks and crackers create noise and air pollution while excessive noise pollution increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and mental stress.
In addition, releasing lanterns causes fires and loss of biodiversity, it added.
