DHAKA, Dec 30, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today placed central leader of
banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Md Muktadir Rashid Mukto on a two-day
remand in a case lodged over assaulting students of Dhaka University (DU)
during the anti-discrimination student movement on July 15.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharifur Rahman passed the order as police
produced the BCL leader before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day
remand in the case.

Mukto was held by commoners from in front of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical
University (BSMMU) on December 21 and was later handed over to police.

According to the case documents, cadres of BCL, Jubo League and Awami League
pounced on agitating students on the DU campus, beating and hacking them
indiscriminately. More than 300 students were injured in the barbaric attack
on that day, it added.

Over the attack, DU student Arman Hossain filed the murder attempt case with
Shahbagh Police Station against 220 people.
