Touhid requests new envoy to allow stranded workers to Malaysia  

DHAKA, Dec 30, 2024 (BSS)- Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has said Dhaka awaits Malaysia’s roadmap to address the plight of the Bangladeshi workers who could not enter the Southeast Asian country by May 31 deadline this year.

The adviser said this when the newly appointed Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mohd Shuhada Othman paid a courtesy call on him at the foreign ministry here, said a ministry press release. 

On October 5 last, during his visit in Dhaka, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim promised to consider the entry of 18,000 Bangladeshi workers who failed to enter Malaysia in May. 

In the meeting the foreign adviser also discussed the issues of mutual interests and possible collaboration in different areas including trade and investment, manpower, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding and renewable energy. 

They discussed the matters of potential investments and partnership to foster economic engagement between the two brotherly countries.
 
The High Commissioner discussed the prospect of newly manufactured Malaysian car market in Bangladesh. 

The Foreign Adviser congratulated Malaysia for their upcoming ASEAN Chairmanship in January 2025. 

Touhid assured the new High Commissioner of extending all possible support during his tenure in Bangladesh and wished him a fruitful stint ahead.
