NARAIL, Dec 31, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today acquitted Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)'s acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in a defamation case.
Judicial Magistrate Court-2 Judge Mehedi Hasan passed the order this afternoon, said Advocate Abdul Haque, Public Prosecutor (PP) of the district Judge Court.
Earlier, plaintiff of the case Shahajan Biswas filed an appeal with District and Sessions Judge Court against Tarique Rahman's earlier sentence in that case, he said.
The Sessions Judge Court later referred the case to the lower court as the plaintiff expressed his inability to pursue the case.
On February 4, 2021, the lower court sentenced Tarique Rahman to two years of imprisonment.
He was also fined Taka 10,000 in the same case, in default, he has to suffer another six months in prison.
