DHAKA, Dec 31, 2024 (BSS) - Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder today said safe food programmes will be enhanced more by equipping hygienic test facilities through the laboratories.
“Various types of infrastructures are being installed in an effort to ensure the availability of safe food and laboratory is its integral part”, he said.
The food adviser said it as the chief guest while inaugurating mini labs at the project of Strengthening the capacity of Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) in the capital here.
“We hope that all people can easily get safe food and the authority can widen its surveillance through expanding lab facilities so that nobody suffer any health related problems due to the food”, said the adviser in his address.
Imam emphasized on raising mass awareness and enforcing laws to ensure safe food, adding even the adviser also has urged all the concerned to become alert for ensuring the availability of safe food.
The mini laboratories will help to identify presence of toxic materials in the dry fish, doses of pesticides in vegetables and fruits, existence and doses of harmful Potassium bromated in bread, identify heavy metal in food, existence of artificial color in food, presence of mineral in water, presence of anti-biotic residue in milk, toxic presence and doses in honey, identify adulteration in foodgoods, detect lactose presence in baby food identify of other bacteria including salmonella and coli form in food items and other quality test will be done accurately.
Prior to this, the food adviser visited the mobile laboratories run by the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority as the BFSA have eight mobile labs in eight divisions.
Immediate quality test of the food items would be possible through these mobile labs.
Food Secretary M Masudul Hasan also spoke the function as the special guest while BFSA’s Chairman Zakaria in the chair.
