DHAKA, Dec 31, 2024 (BSS) - The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested one person along with a large quantity of illegal fireworks, crackers and explosives in the capital's Chawkbazar area.

The arrested was identified as Sajjad Hossain Rahat, 42, said a DMP press release.

Acting on tip-off, a team of DB Lalbagh Division conducted a drive at Boro Katra lane of Chawkbazar at 06:30pm on Monday as they came to know that few people were staying inside of Arif Traders to trade fireworks, crackers and explosive (chocolate bombs, cluster bombs, leaf bombs and rocket bombs).

Sensing the presence of DB, 2/3 people fled the scene, but the law enforcer managed to nab Sajjad. At that time, they recovered huge quantity of fireworks, crackers and explosive kept inside 10 cartons and 100 packets.
 
The arrestee confessed during the initial interrogation that they had collected fireworks, crackers and explosives from the border area through their associates and brought them to Dhaka for sale.
