DHAKA, Dec 31, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today called upon the struggling countrymen to play a leading role in restoring the lost democracy and voting rights of the people.
“New Year awakens a new pulse of life, new hope, and new possibilities in everyone’s life. Let Bangladesh move forward on the path of immense potential,” he said in a message given today on the eve of the New Year-2025.
The BNP acting chairman extended warm greetings and congratulations to everyone at home and abroad on the occasion of Christian New Year and wished it will bring unending joy, happiness, comfort, peace and prosperity in everyone's life.
He also wished that the nation would get rid of all sorts of injustice, oppression, and torture forever.
“Christ Year has become inseparable from daily life in the world. That is why colorful festivals are held worldwide to welcome the New Year,” he said.
“The past year will now remain always fresh in our minds. Bitter experiences of the past year, supreme sacrifice of students and people will give pain to us on one hand, on the other hand, it will inspire us with new enthusiasm for the possibility of regaining the right to peace, harmony and multi-party democracy,” he added.
“Our commitment today will be to ensure the political and economic empowerment of the people, strengthen state institutions and work together to revive multi-party democracy, including restoring the economy,” he said.
He called upon all to be proactive in implementing and practicing the democracy that was achieved through countless blood debts in Bangladesh.
The defeated anti-people forces had confined all the rights of the people, he said, urging all to work for establishing a multi-party democracy with the joint efforts of all democratic forces.
Leaving the past behind, the Christian New Year has come to the nation with a new message in the traditional cycle of time.
‘The New Year gives us the motivation to move forward with new initiatives by shaking off the failures, regrets, and disappointments of the old year. It is the innate tendency of people to welcome the new,” he said.
Tarique Rahman hoped that in the New Year the nation will be able to reach a stage of overall transformation of the country.
“Using the experience of the past, let us work together in the struggle to establish equality, human dignity, and justice in the state and society. We hope to build a nation where every citizen is important and everyone’s voice will be free,” he said.
