DHAKA, Dec 31, 2024 (BSS)– Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a set of instructions that include not holding any open gatherings for maintaining law and order on the occasion of the 31st night and Christian New Year 2025.
“ Any kind of events; like meeting, gathering, mass gathering, dance, song, cultural program, rally and procession are prohibited in open places without permission on the occasion of the 31st night and New Year 2025,” said a DMP press release.
However, residential hotels will be able to organize events on a limited scale under their own management, it said.
The DMP has banned on displaying any kind of fireworks, firecrackers and releasing candle-lit balloons under its jurisdiction.
The DMP issued the instruction under the powers under sections-28 and 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance in the interest of maintaining law and order in the DMP areas.
According to the instructions, all the bars in the DMP areas remained closed from 6 pm on December 31, 2024 till 8 am on January 1, 2025.
The DMP also banned carrying all types of licensed firearms in various residential hotels, restaurants, public gatherings and festival venues in Dhaka Metropolitan areas from 6 pm on December 31, 2024 till 5 am on January 1, 2025.
Teachers, students, officials and employees living in the Dhaka University area have been asked to return to their respective areas by 8:00 PM on December 31, 2024. They will have to show their identity cards to on duty police if they enter after 8 pm.
Citizens living in Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara areas are requested to return to their respective areas by 8:00 PM on December 31, 2024.
The DMP said that outsiders will not be able to enter Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara areas after 8:00 PM. However, citizens living in the said areas will be able to enter through Kamal Ataturk Avenue (Kakoli Crossing) and Mohakhali Amtoli crossing after the specified time, subject to providing identity.
No gathering or event will be allowed in the Hatirjheel area after 6 pm and no one will be able to stop or park any vehicle.
Similarly, in the interest of overall safety, all citizens who do not live in the residential areas of Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Dhaka University are discouraged from going to the mentioned areas.
The DMP also banned playing of loud horns and music that creates public nuisance.
