Fugitive death-row convict held in city 

DHAKA, Jan 4, 2025 (BSS) - Police today arrested a fugitive accused, who was 
sentenced to death in a case filed murdering a teenage girl Beena after gang 
rape in Sherpur district, from the city's Kawran Bazar area. 

The arrested accused has been identified as Md. Aman Ullah, 26, son of 
deceased Fazal Haque, hailed from Bankakura village under Jhenaigati Police 
Station of Sherpur district, according to a police press release.
 
On the basis of secret information, the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) in a raid 
at Kawran Bazar area under Tejgaon Police Station arrested Aman Ullam at 
1.05pm, the release added. 

According to the case details, on July 19, 2016, the arrested Aman Ullah 
along with other accused raped and killed a schoolgirl Kishori Beena in 
Sherpur and dumped her body in a nearby pond.

In this incident, a murder case was registered under the Prevention of 
Repression of Women and Children Act 2000 with Jhenaigati Police Station 
against six people including Md. Aman Ullah under its section 9(3). 

After investigation of the case, a charge-sheet was filed against the 
accused. 

On September 27, 2008, Additional District and Sessions Judge Court, Sherpur, 
awarded death sentences against the detained accused Md. Aman Ullah and three 
others.

After the Awami League (AL) government was dislodged in face of the anti-
discrimination students' movement, Aman Ullah escaped from the Kashimpur High 
Security Prison on August 6 in 2024.
