CHATTOGRAM, Jan 04, 2025 (BSS) - Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) Amir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Charmonai Pir, today demanded holding of the next general election after completing necessary reforms.
“If an unstable situation is created by holding an early election without completing necessary reforms, the countrymen won’t accept it,” he said while urging all for forging a greater unity to this end.
The IAB Amir was addressing a roundtable on "Resisting India's political and cultural dominance, resolving Chittagong's regional problems and the need for forging national unity to establish a non-discriminatory welfare state" at the conference lounge of the Chittagong Polo Ground today.
Criticizing the “misdeeds” of the previous governments, the IAB Amir said those who were in power in the past did politics only for their own welfare. But, we did not agree to become an MP or ministers with anyone's cooperation because we do politics for the welfare of Islam, the country and humanity as well, he added.
The IAB Senior Nayebe Amir Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, Shaikhe Charmonai, demanded for cancelling the academic curriculum and introducing a new curriculum in light of the July revolution.
Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’s Main organizer Sarjis Alam said the current generation is not a partisan generation which has lost its conscience. “This generation will rise up against immoral activities,” he vowed.
Chittagong Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Metropolitan Alhaj Shahjahan Chowdhury said Chittagong is facing a threat due to the problems in the Chattogram Hill Tract (CHT).
The IAB Presidium Member Prof. Ashraf Ali Akon said, there has been no freedom across the country since the nation’s 53 years and a welfare state has not been established.
BNP Health and Family Welfare Secretary of Chattogram city unit Dr. SM Sarwar Alam said, “India's political aggression has damaged our country. We have to create unity among ourselves.”
Gano Adhikar Parishad Chattogram city unit Secretary Muhammad Yusuf said, Hasina should be expelled from India and brought to justice.
Khelafat Majlis Chittagong Metropolitan unit President Prof. Khurshid Alam said it is not possible to remove Indian hegemony in a short time.
Professor of Chittagong University Dr. Muhammad Al Furqan put emphasis on forging a national unity to establish a welfare-oriented nation and a society without discrimination.
With IAB president of Chattogram unit Muhammad Jannatul Islam in the chair, IAB Joint Secretary General Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman conducted the roundtable.
