DHAKA, Jan 6, 2025 (BSS) – The Qatar Royal family owned Air Ambulance, scheduled to land here tonight to carry former prime minister Khaleda Zia to London on Tuesday, is an Airbus A319 modeled aircraft equipped with state-of art medical equipment caters to critical and long-haul patient transfers.

“While specific details of the aircraft remain confidential for security reasons, I can confirm it is modeled on the Airbus A319,” an official at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), who requested anonymity, told BSS this evening.

The Qatar Royal Family’s Airbus A319 air ambulance, scheduled to carry Khleda Zia at 10 pm tomorrow, underscores the aircraft’s capacity to manage critical and long-distance patient transfers with unparalleled care.

Advanced Medical Technology Onboard

While asked aviation expert Kazi Wahidul Alam highlighted the A319 air ambulance’s advanced capabilities, describing it as a flying intensive care unit (ICU).

“This aircraft is equipped with the latest medical technology to manage emergencies, ensuring continuous patient care during transit,” he said.

According to Airbus, the A319 is outfitted with ventilators, defibrillators, infusion pumps, and advanced cardiac monitors.

It also has dedicated storage areas for medical supplies, ensuring readiness for various emergencies.

The cabin’s spacious layout allows for seamless movement of medical staff, enabling efficient delivery of life-saving interventions.

Customizable Interior for Patient Care

Unlike traditional air ambulances, the A319 boasts a spacious cabin layout that can accommodate medical personnel.

Customizable configurations include room for stretchers, private patient zones, and seating for accompanying family members or specialists.

The aircraft is equipped with a medical team from Qatar's royal medical unit, comprising four physicians and paramedics, ensuring comprehensive care during the journey.

These specialists are adept at managing emergencies ranging from cardiac arrests to trauma cases. The medical staff works in tandem with the flight crew to ensure patient safety throughout the journey.

Features for Patient Comfort and Safety

As per Airbus, the A319 air ambulance is also equipped with advanced climate control systems and soundproofing to minimize in-flight stress to ensure patient comfort.

Real-time communication systems allow the onboard team to consult with ground-based medical experts, ensuring continuity of care.

Moreover, a pressurized cabin maintains optimal oxygen levels, critical for patients with respiratory conditions.

The A319 air ambulance represents a leap forward in medical aviation, offering a lifeline for critically ill patients worldwide.

By integrating aviation technology with medical expertise, it sets a new standard for air ambulance services, ensuring that no distance is too great for life-saving care, according to the Airbus.

Long-Range Capabilities and Rapid Deployment

With its enhanced fuel capacity, the A319 air ambulance can undertake long-haul flights, making it ideal for intercontinental medical evacuations.

The aircraft’s ability to land on shorter runways and at less accessible airports ensures it can reach remote areas swiftly.

Khaleda Zia’s Journey to London

Today in a briefing, AZM Zahid Hossain stated that, after completing the necessary formalities, Begum Khaleda Zia will depart tomorrow at 10 pm from HSIA on the special air ambulance provided by the Amir of Qatar.

The flight will take the route from Dhaka to Doha and then to London's Heathrow International Airport, he said.

The Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, provided this special royal fleet aircraft upon learning of the health condition of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, he added.

Dr Hossain further informed that six members of Khaleda Zia’s medical board will also accompany her on this flight.

The 79-year-old Khaleda Zia has been suffering from a variety of health complications, including liver cirrhosis, heart disease, and kidney problems, for a long time.
