DHAKA, Jan 6, 2025 (BSS) – An attempt to murder case has been filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 89 others for torturing and making Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami activist Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan crippled for life in police custody in 2013.
Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan, son of Amin Ullah Bhuiyan of village North Raipur of Lakshmipur district, filed the case on January 5 at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masuma Rahman. The court after recording the statement of the complainant, asked Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station to file the matter as a first information report (FIR), court clerk Shib Shankar confirmed the matter to BSS today.
The other prominent accused in the case are - Sheikh Fazle Karim Selim, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Obaidul Quader, Hasanul Haque Inu, Hasan Mahmud, Amir Hossain Amu, Mohammad Ali Arafat, Barrister Tureen Afroz, journalist Naimul Islam Khan, Shakil Ahmed, Farzana Rupa, Mozammel Babu, Munni Saha, Shyamal Dutta and Subhash Singha Roy.
According to the case documents, Mohammad Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan was picked up along with 10 others by police on February 28, 2013, from the Farmgate area. Of them, six to seven were brutally beaten and were later shot by police on their legs. Bhuiyan became crippled for life from the brutal assault.
