Crimes against humanity charges filed against Hasina, 15 others

DHAKA, Jan 7, 2025 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today received allegation of crimes against humanity against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 15 others.

"The then government in 2021 fired indiscriminately at the people who were demonstrating against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bangladesh, injuring and killing many innocents.

 We are today filing allegation against 16, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, then home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former lawmaker RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury," Jatiya Nagorik Committee member secretary Akhtar Hossain, who was present at the time, told newsmen.

Akhtar said many unarmed civilians were gunned down in Chattogram, Brahmanbaria and Dhaka. 

"Seventeen people were killed as per the government statistics. The government also took many steps to deprive the injure victims of justice and proper treatment.
 Around 54 cases were filed against seven thousand people in Brahmanbaria and we came here today to lodge complaints over those crimes," he added.

Shafikul Islam Mufti, father of victim Asadullah Ratin, 17, who was killed in the police shooting at the time, filed the complaint.
