HSRC for making health services public-welfare friendly

BARISHAL, Jan 9, 2025 (BSS) – The Health Sector Reform Commission (HSRC) held a views- exchange meeting with the stakeholders here to turn the health services into public-welfare friendly sector in Barishal.

The meeting was held at the Sher-E-Bangla Medical College, where HSRC member MM Reza spoke as chief guest.

He said the commission is working to make the services easily available to the people, but it is not possible to change the long-standing complexities in a day.

MM Reza opined that everyone has a responsibility to bring changes in the health sector to make it universal for all.

“The HSRC also believes that collective efforts are required to solve various problems, including manpower and machinery,” he added.

Replying to the comments of the participants, the HSRC member also said that they are getting the opportunity to work independently here as no one is pressuring them.

Therefore, the demands of service providers and recipients in the sector will be reflected, he added.

The HSRC member said that they will submit the opinions received from the stakeholders to the Chief Adviser.

In addition, the participants discussed various issues, including keeping the pathology and diagnostic testing system of the government hospitals open for 24X7 and making the hospitals broker-free.

During this time, stakeholders from different levels raised various problems and suggestions related to health at the district and upazila levels of the division, including Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

Akram Hossain, Barishal Police Range DIG Manjur Morshed Alam, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Delwar Hossain, Divisional Health Director Dr. Shyamal Krishna Mondal, Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Principal Professor Dr. Md. Faizul Bashar, Director of Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital Brig Gen AKM Mashiul Munir, officials from various departments related to health and family welfare, representatives of the Metropolitan and District Police, Civil Surgeons of various districts, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officers, private healthcare providers, journalists, representatives of civil society and anti-discrimination student movements, and students of medical and nursing colleges.
