DHAKA, Jan 9, 2025 (BSS) - Adviser Mahfuj Alam today warned of taking stern actions against those involved in attacks on mazars of Sufi saints and cultural functions.

He came up with the warning while speaking at a press briefing at Foreign Service Academy here.

After the August 5, Mahfuj said, attacks were carried out on mazars and cultural functions like Qawwali concerts in different parts of Bangladesh, while it was not possible to take actions against the perpetrators in many cases, expressing “sorry for that”.

“But, from now on, we will take stern measures if attacks are carried out on any mazar of Sufi saints and cultural functions. We will not spare anybody in this regard. We are committed to taking strong measures,” he said.

He said the government is going to take actions against those involved in foiling a Qawwali performance and vandalising a shrine in Mymensingh last night.

The adviser asked all aggrieved people to file cases in connections with attacks on mazars and cultural functions so that the government can take immediate measures in this regard.

A Qawwali performance was foiled and a shrine vandalised in the Mymensingh city's Thanarghat area last night.
Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Kalu Shah Mazar Sharif authorities organised the Qawwali programme, marking the annual milad and dua mahfil held for Sama Qawwali.

Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and CA's Deputy Press Secretaries Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Apurba Jahangir were also present at the press briefing.
