DHAKA, Jan 9, 2025 (BSS)- BNP has expressed regret over the heavy traffic jams on various streets in the capital on Tuesday as party supporters thronged airport road to see off party Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia on her way to London for advanced treatment.
In a statement today, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed this regret on behalf of the party.
According to the statement, the people's invaluable love for Khaleda Zia, who has been the victim of unjust outrage for a long time, led to heavy traffic jams on the city streets on that day.
A massive number of people including activists of BNP thronged the streets from her Gulshan residence Firoza to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here to say a goodbye to BNP chief wishing her home return following successful medical treatment abroad.
“This caused various inconveniences to many citizens on that day. Considering the situation, we expect the people of Dhaka to look kindly on the temporary inconvenience in their movement on that day,” said Mirza Fakhrul.
“The countrymen are aware of Begun Khaleda Zia illness as she was subjected to the wrath of the fallen fascist Sheikh Hasina government for a long period.”
“The countrymen also remember that Begun Khaleda Zia, the pioneer of the movement to restore democracy in Bangladesh, didn’t compromise with any unjust but served jail term in a false and fabricated case filed by the previous government showing full respect to the prevailing laws of the country. While in prison, her physical condition continued to deteriorate due to the lack of advanced medical treatment.”
Mirza Fakhrul said despite repeated requests from the BNP and the family she was not allowed to undergo treatment abroad.
After the fall of the fascist Sheikh Hasina government on August 5, BNP chief was released from prison by the current interim government's executive order. But as her physical condition did not improve much, the process of taking her abroad for better treatment was initiated.
