DHAKA, Jan 11, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today urged all to stay patient and united in realizing the dream of a new Bangladesh and not to take any wrong decision hastily.

“Let us remain steadfast in our decision. We want to return to a democratic system, we want to eliminate all discrimination, we want to join hands with the youth of the country to build a new Bangladesh,” he told the inaugural ceremony of the first national council of Amar Bangladesh Party widely known as ‘AB Party’ at the city’s Suhrawardy Udyan.

Noting that the country’s economic situation is not so good and it is also fragile in the field politics, Mirza Fakhrul underlined the need for taking united efforts to resolve all problems.

“We have been able to free Bangladesh from fascism through united efforts. Then why can’t we truly build a new state with new possibilities? Let us all be united and realize our dream,” he said.

Noting that some people are trying to create a rift in the unity of the mass uprising, the BNP Secretary General said, “There is no division here.

But unfortunately, some people in the country are trying to create a rift in this unity in various ways. I know that attempt won’t be succeeded. We will definitely be able to reach our goal collectively and unitedly”.

Expressing the hope that all the created crises will be resolved if national election is held quickly, Fakhrul said, ‘We have already said about reforms, I repeat that we want reforms.

However, some people try to misunderstand us, that is - we want elections before reforms, we have become restless for elections. But that is not the point at all.’

“We want the election to be held soon. If the election is held, our strength will be greater.

At that time, the government will be there, the parliament will be there and many things will be stronger. The crises that have arisen in the country will be eliminated,” he said.

Mentioning that the BNP will form a united national government after the election, he said, ‘We want to form a united national government after the election. We want to solve all the problems of the state together. Those who are in our party will be there. Those who are in other parties will think about this issue.’

BNP is supporting the current interim government and will continue to do so in the future, he mentioned.

The first national council of ‘Amar Bangladesh Party’ was held at Suhrawardy Udyan. Leaders of various political parties and diplomats from several countries were present. The council displayed a documentary film based on the activities of the AB Party in July-August Revolution.

Family members of those killed in the revolution and injured students also participated in the program.

The names of the elected leaders of the executive committee, including AB Party Chairman Mujibur Rahman Manju and General Secretary Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad, elected by the council, were announced.

Mirza Fakhrul congratulated and wished the new leadership on behalf of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

The AB Party began its journey on May 2, 2020, based on the three core principles of equality, human dignity and social justice.

The National Council, chaired by AB Party convener retired Colonel Abdul Wahab Minar and moderated by Joint Member Secretary Asaduzzaman Fuad.
