BOU committed to ensuring equality, safety, and rights for third-gender students

DHAKA, Jan 16, 2025 (BSS) – Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University (BOU) Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam today said the university is committed to ensure a discrimination-free educational environment in the campus as well as safety, and equal rights for all students.  

“From now on, any third-gender individual interested in pursuing education at Bangladesh Open University can do so with dignity and without any obstacles,” he told the representatives of third-gender students who came to met him at his office today.

During the courtesy meeting, the VC was apprised of the educational challenges faced by third-gender students and outlined initiatives undertaken by the university to create an inclusive learning environment.  

Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam reassured the students, of the university’s commitment to their welfare saying, “BOU would provide a supportive and respectful academic environment, free from prejudice or adverse situations”.

The third-gender representatives shared their experiences of social discrimination and challenges that affect their daily lives, emphasizing the need for systemic support to combat the barriers they face.

BOU Pro-VC Professor Dr. Saeed Ferdous, Treasurer Professor Dr. Abul Hasnat Mohammed Shamim and Registrar Dr. Mohammed Shafiqul Alam were also present on the occasion.

Chairperson of Shustha Jibon Parbati Ahmed, Gender Focal of Supto Jibon Jonaki Jonak and Shompurna President Joya Sikdar were also present among the third gender representatives in the meeting.
