'IQ test' method for primary students is crucial: Dr Bidhan

DHAKA, Jan 22, 2025 (BSS) - Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Podder today said creating an "IQ test" method to assess intelligence of the primary school students is crucial for the country's education system. 

"All concerned should work with sincerity and dedication to this end," he told a meeting where a presentation was made by the Clinical Psychology Department of Dhaka University to prepare the proposed IQ Test manual, said a ministry press release.

The ministry of primary and mass education has already taken the move to prepare the test manual to assess the IQ level of the government primary school students.

With secretary of the ministry Abu Taher Md Masud Rana in the chair, Dr. Mohammad Kamruzzaman Majumder, professor of the department of clinical psychology made the presentation.

Chairman of the inter-ministerial committee for effective cooperation and technical assistance for the development of IQ test and additional secretary of the ministry of primary mass education Masud Akhter Khan, social welfare ministry joint secretary Hazera Khatun, chairman of the department of clinical psychology Dr Md Shahanur Hossain, professor of the national institute of mental health Dr Helal Uddin Ahmed and assistant professor Dr Md Zahir Uddin, directors of the directorate of Primary Education Dr. Md. Ataul Gani and Md. Lutfur Rahman, and professor of the directorate of health Dr Syed Zakir Hossain, among others, also took part in the meeting. 

The ministry has formed an eight-member inter-ministerial Committee on January 14 for effective cooperation and technical assistance for the development of IQ test-based education.

Additional secretary (schools) of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has been made chairman of the committee. 

Other members of the committee are representatives from the department of primary education, health services division, ministry of social welfare, department of health, department of social services and national academy of primary education, while member secretary of the committee is the deputy secretary (school 2) of the ministry of primary and mass education.
