DHAKA, Jan 27, 2025 (BSS) - The 22nd Council Meeting of the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) was held at the university here today with Education Adviser Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud in the chair.
The meeting was graced by the presence of General Waqar-uz-Zaman, Chief of Army Staff, Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, Chief of Naval Staff and Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan, Chief of Air Staff, an ISPR release said.
Among the council members-Lieutenant General S M Kamrul Hassan, Principal Staff Officer, Armed Forces Division, Md. Ashraf Uddin, Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Major General Md Mahbub-ul Alam, Vice Chancellor of the BUP, Major General Md. Nasim Parvez, Commandant MIST, Major General Md Hasan Uz Zaman, Engineer in Chief, Army Headquarters, Major General Khandaker Muhammad Shahidul Emran, Commandant BMA and Prof. Dr. Md. Kabirul Islam from BUET were present at the meeting.
Discussions at the meeting centered on MIST's future development, culminating in several key decisions. Plans were outlined to increase seat capacities across BSc Engineering programs, establishment of new faculties and departments for the inclusion in international university rankings, introduce an MSc in Cyber security, and set up a Biomedical Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC).
In his opening remarks, the Education adviser paid homage to the heroic martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War, acknowledging their immense sacrifices for the independence of the country.
He also expressed his respect for those who lost their lives in last student-people anti-discriminatory movement, especially two (Shaheed Shykh Aash-Ha-Bul Yamin & Shaheed Md Rakibul Hossain) students from MIST and prayed for the recovery of injured students and mass people.
Praising MIST's current trajectory, he emphasized the importance of preparing for future challenges in technology-driven education and highlighted the critical role of research in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in addressing the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
The Army Chief extended his heartfelt congratulations to MIST for its swift progress in achieving excellence in technology education and research. He also expressed his confidence in MIST's sustained growth and global reputation.
The Chief of Naval Staff remarked on MIST's ability to lead nationally and internationally in education, research and innovation. The Chief of Air Staff lauded the institute's efforts in providing advanced technology oriented education for defense personnel while producing world-class Engineer graduates.
Commandant MIST welcomed all members of the meeting and highlighted the achievement & challenging of MIST.
In the closing remarks, Wahiduddin Mahmud expressed his gratitude to all participants for their constructive engagement. He concluded with optimism that the meeting's resolutions would usher in a new era of innovation and excellence for MIST and the broader field of technological education in the country.
