RANGPUR, Jan 29, 2025 (BSS) - The Medical Board, comprising expert doctors of
Rangpur Medical College, has started working on the next phase of medical
care for the students injured in the anti-discrimination student movement in
Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) in July-August 2024.
On the first day today, 17 injured BRUR students presented their various
physical and health problems to the Medical Board at Rangpur Medical College
Hospital.
The doctors started working to identify the problems of the injured students
separately. The Medical Board is providing necessary instructions regarding
the further treatment of the injured students as per their needs.
The Medical Board for the remaining injured students will be held tomorrow
(Thursday).
Earlier, Vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali, took
the initiative to form the Medical Board to ensure medical care to the
students injured during the anti-discrimination student movement.
For this purpose, Rangpur Medical College Principal (Acting) Professor Dr Md
Shariful Islam formed a five-member medical board on January 23, 2025 with Dr
Md Mokhlesur Rahman, Head of the Department of Medicine as the convener.
The other members of the medical board are Dr Md Tofail Hossain Bhuyan,
Professor and Head of the Neurosurgery Department of Rangpur Medical College,
Dr Md Ashfaqur Rahman, Associate Professor of the Orthopedic Surgery
Department, Dr Md Abdul Hadi, Associate Professor of the Surgery Department,
and Dr Md Atiquzzaman, Assistant Professor of the Ophthalmology Department.
While interviewing the injured students, Director of the Office of the
Student Affairs Professor Dr Md Ileas Pramanik, Deputy Chief Medical Officer
of BRUR Medical Center Dr AM Shahriar and other doctors and students were
present.
Speaking to BSS, BRUR Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Shawkat Ali said,
"Students played the biggest role in the July-August Revolution.
"We are determined to ensure the treatment of the students injured in the
July Revolution. Students are the important stakeholders and so we have
formed the Medical Board with doctors from Rangpur Medical College to ensure
the treatment of the injured students."
"So far, we have received a list of 39 people injured in the July-August
movement at our university. The Medical Board is working to provide treatment
and all possible counseling to the injured students," he added.
