DHAKA, Feb 1, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman called upon the countrymen to stay united to counter the conspiracies of the cohorts of the fallen fascist Awami League (AL) government.
“The fascist has gone. But, cronies of the fallen fascist are still active in the country. So, all have to remain united,” he said while addressing virtually from London the biennial conference of the Brahmanbaria district unit of the BNP as chief guest at Abbasuddin Khan Model College, Ashuganj ground.
Mentioning that the fascist AL was in power for the last one and a half decade, Tarique said that the people of the countrymen had been tortured in many ways and they could not say anything against them in fear.
For this reason, doubt might have been created in the minds of the people about the political parties, he said, adding, “So, we have to work on returning the confidence of the people in the political parties.”
Tarique Rahman said they are able to resolve the issues on how the parliament will run in future, what will be its tenure and for how much time one person can be a prime minister through discussions.
“We will fall back to reconstruct the state if we spend more time in discussing the issues,” he said.
He alerted the countrymen about the re-emergence of the fascists as its cohorts are still trying to hatch intrigues in the name of movement in exchange of realizing various demands.
“So, all have to remain alert against the move at any cost. We may have differences in opinions but we have to solve the problems through discussions. Being a major political party, the leaders and activists have to play a responsible role,” he said.
Tarique said only BNP can build the country as per the expectation of the countrymen at this moment.
“What BNP will do for the betterment of the people, has been outlined and elaborated in the 31-point charter of state reform. We have to make sure the rights of education, rights of medicare services,” he said.
Tarique Rahman said they will eradicate unemployment, ensure development of agriculture and industries alongside ensuring fair prices of the agricultural products in line with the 31-point state reform outline.
“But, we have to be cautious as the skyrocketing prices of the essentials cannot create immense sufferings to the commoners,” he said.
He reminded all if the BNP is engaged in altercations for their own interests, the fascist will be beneficial.
“The people had no rights of voting in the last 15 years as it was snatched away at gunpoint. We had sometime witnessed dummy election and voter less polls,” he said.
He said the electoral system and the judiciary need to rebuild and the sooner the reform is completed the sooner the country will be developed.
BNP Vice-Chairman Barkatullah Bulu earlier inaugurated the conference.
“Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman did not come to power by killing anyone. Sepoy-people brought Ziaur Rahman to power through revolution to defend the country’s sovereignty,” he said.
The BNP leader said Ziaur Rahman had introduced the labour market abroad including in the Middle East countries and he also established the countries readymade garments sectors by giving loans.
“But, Awami League wants to change the history,” he said.
Brahmanbaria District BNP President Advocate Abdul Mannan presided over the conference.
BNP’s Cumilla divisional organizing secretary principal Md Selim Bhuiyan, assistant organizing secretary Md Mostak Ahmed, central economic affair secretary engineer Khaled Hossain Shyamol among others, spoke on the occasion.
