DHAKA, Feb 1, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said BNP will welcome the new political party to be formed by students.

"Students will form a new political party and enter politics. We will welcome them. They will try to reach out to the people with their new ideas, but if they form a party remaining within the government, the country's people will not accept it," he said.

The BNP secretary general made the remarks while attending a Doa Mahfil, praying for quick recovery of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, as the chief guest in the capital's Uttara Sector-13 playground.

Dhaka City North BNP joint convener Afaz Uddin Afaz organized the event, where gifts also distributed among the destitute people seeking recovery of Khaleda Zia.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, "You (students) will form a party. We will welcome you, cooperate with you. We will work shoulder to shoulder to hold a free and fair election."

He, however, requested to them (students) not to utter derogatory remarks, saying "I will only make this request to you that it would be better not to bring any unnecessary conflicting talk into politics, we hope so (to you)."

He further said that today she (Hasina) is gone and it have paved the way to talk peacefully, adding, "Now, we're free from Hasina. But our goal is to return to a democratic system, but so far we have not been able to return to that democracy."

The BNP secretary general said the present government is an interim government and they have been clearly told their responsibilities as Hasina has created so much mess, and destroyed the country's economy, judicial system and the administration.

"They (incumbent government) will hold elections by fixing these to a minimum level through reform . . . and at the election, people will vote and bring someone to power those they want," he added.

Dhaka City North BNP Convener Md. Aminul Haque, member secretary Haji Mostafa Zaman, senior joint convener Mostafizur Rahman Segun and joint convener SM Jahangir, among others, were also present.
