Rangpur student coordinators demand 3 police officers’ attachment cancellation

RANGPUR, Feb 1, 2025 (BSS) – Rangpur Metropolitan coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at a press conference tonight demanded immediate cancellation of attachment of three police officers who are stationed in  Rangpur.
 
The police officials are Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) Govinda Chandra and Montasir Billah (both attached to Rangpur Metropolitan Police, (RpMP) and additional DIG Masud Ahmed (attached to Rangpur Range DIG office)  .
 
The demand was made at a press conference organized at the Sumi Community Centre.
 
The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement coordinators said that the three police officials, who came to Rangpur, were directly involved in the indiscriminate shooting, brutal attacks and torture on students and the public during the July mass uprising.
 
Imtiaz Ahmed Imti, convener of the Rangpur Metropolitan Committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said, "ADC Govinda Chandra was the main responsible person in capital’s Motijheel area during July uprising.
 
“Govinda Chandra carried out indiscriminate attacks and torture on students and the public in that area during the mass uprising, causing bloodshed. This officer who carried out the brutal attack has been transferred to RpMP,” he said.
 
Another police officer, Montasir Billah, was a member of the Chhatra League. He also participated in the attacks and torture during the uprising. He has also been transferred to Rangpur.
 
“We had urged these two officers to cancel their attachment in Rangpur, but the authorities concerned did not do so. We want cancellation of their attachment immediately.’ Imtiaz Ahmed Imti said.
 
Not only those two officers, there is another additional DIG named Masud Ahmed in the Rangpur DIG office; he also attacked the students and the public. He should also be removed from here.
 
Expressing his anger, Imtiaz said that Rangpur has become a sanctuary for criminals. These officers accused of attacking the students and the public should be withdrawn immediately.
 
Nahid Hasan Khandaker, spokesperson of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Rangpur Metropolitan branch said, “We are drawing attention of the government. Even though fascist Sheikh Hasina has fled the country, her allies have continued to carry out their various conspiracies.”
 
He said, the allies of the ousted fascist regime are still active in many places. They are hatching various conspiracies.  
At the same time, the student coordinators urged the government to stop the controversial prepaid meter installation program of NESCO in Rangpur city and bring government officials involved in various irregularities and corruption under punishment.
 
The student coordinators demanded of the interim government to allocate special budget for the development of Rangpur, improve the railway communication system, increase the number of trains, start gas-based factories and create employment, and reformation of the Shyamasundari Canal to fulfil the aspirations of the people.
 
Joint convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Rangpur Metropolitan branch Motawakkil Billah Shah Fakir, its Member-secretary Rahmat Ali, joint Member-secretary Rajimuzzaman Hridoy and other coordinators were present at the time.
