RANGPUR, Feb 2, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested Jubo League leader Murad Khan
accused in the murder case of Mahmudul Hasan Munna, who was killed in Rangpur
city during the student-led July-August mass-uprising.
"The Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) arrested him from the Babupara
railway station area of the city around 9:30 pm on Saturday," Officer-in-
Charge (OC) of RpMP's Kotwali Police Station Md Ataur Rahman told BSS this
afternoon.
Murad Khan, organising secretary of Ward 28 Jubo League, is the son of late
Mostaq Alam of Station Babupara area in the city.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali told reporters that
Murad had been in hiding since August 5 to avoid arrest.
Murad Khan is the 54th accused in the murder case.
"Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Sub-inspector Mostafizur Rahman
produced Murad Khan before a Rangpur court this afternoon," OC Ataur Rahman
said.
A case has been filed against Nuruzzaman Ahmed, his son and 128 others in the
incident of the death of Mahmudul Hasan Munna during the anti-discrimination
movement in Rangpur, police said.
Munna's father Abdul Majid filed the case in the Rangpur Metropolitan
Magistrate Kotwali Cognizance Court on August 29 last year.
In this case, police arrested Nuruzzaman Ahmed, the former Social Welfare
Minister of the ousted Awami League government from his one relative's house
in the Post Office lane on Central Road in the city last Thursday night.
In this case, police arrested Al-Amin Hossain, the leader of the banned
organization Chhatra League, along with a sharp weapon from the city's
Babupara station at night on January 28.
Earlier on October 27 last year, Lalmonirhat District Detective Branch (DB)
police arrested Shamsuzzaman Ahmed Bhutto, the younger brother of former
Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, from Kaliganj Bazar in the same
case.
