RANGPUR, Feb 4, 2025 (BSS) - Rangpur Medical College Principal Professor Dr. Md. Shariful Islam here today underscored the need for systematic lifestyle and proper diet to prevent cancer.
"Ignorance about the adverse impact of smoking and eating junk food increase the risk of cancer. Therefore, these foods should be avoided to prevent cancer," he told a discussion arranged at Gallery No. 1 of Rangpur Medical College in observance of the World Cancer Day 2025.
The Radiotherapy Department of Rangpur Medical College Hospital organized the event in collaboration with Beacon Pharmaceuticals.
Representatives of Beacon Pharmaceuticals, teachers and students of Rangpur Medical College and journalists were present at the discussion.
A colourful rally was organized on the premises of Rangpur Medical College Hospital before the discussion.
With Head of the Radiotherapy Department of Rangpur Medical College Hospital Professor Dr. Jahan Afroza Khanum in the chair, Director of Rangpur Medical College and Hospital Brigadier General Ashikur Rahman, Vice- principal Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, MD of the Radiotherapy Department Dr. Khandaker Md. Arif Hasnat, and Radiotherapist Dr. Shafiqul Islam Ripon addressed the event as special guests.
The chief guest said that due to uncontrolled lifestyle, the rate of breast cancer in women and oral cavity cancer in men is increasing day by day.
"In addition, there is an increase in cervical cancer, intestinal and rectal cancer, esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, and lung cancer," he said.
Professor Shariful Islam emphasized on increasing awareness along with a systematic lifestyle instead of fearing about cancer, to prevent cancer.
