DHAKA, Feb 4, 2025 (BSS) – Jatiya Nagorik Committee has placed a seven-point proposal to the Health Sector Reform Commission for reforming the country’s health sector.
 
Nagorik Committee Joint Convener Dr Tasnim Jara handed over the proposal to head of the Health Sector Reform Commission National Professor Dr AK Azad today at Shaheed Abu Sayeed International Convention Centre in the city’s Minto Road area.

Later, at a press conference, she said, the proposals included not only minor reforms but also an outline for bringing a radical change in the country’s healthcare system. 

The proposals identified longstanding challenges and proposed realistic, effective, and clear solutions to make the healthcare accessible to all, Jara said.

“We envision a healthcare system where a farmer and a minister receive the same quality of treatment. 

We are not talking about minor change rather we are talking about such a reform that will bring radical change in the healthcare system-reducing treatment costs, making the system self-sufficient and eliminating disparities in the healthcare services,” she added.

Dr Jara said Jatiya Nagorik Committee called upon the government, the doctors’ community and the general people to work together to implement these reforms.
 
She said it is possible to build a modern and skilled healthcare system based on equality in Bangladesh if there are political goodwill and people support.

The seven-point proposals included developing emergency medical services and a modern ambulance system, introducing an effective referral system, ensuring improved working environment and fair wages for healthcare workers, introducing nationwide Digital Health Records (EHR), developing evidence-based national treatment guidelines, setting up a national bio-bank and forming a reliable public health information platform, which would be connected to government hospitals and healthcare facilities so that patients can receive treatment at the right place at the right time.
