DHAKA, Feb 4, 2025 (BSS) – Dhaka and Kuwait today discussed mechanisms to enhance the protection and welfare of Bangladeshi expatriates in the Gulf nation, particularly focusing on employment rights and working conditions.

The issue was highlighted during a meeting between Foreign Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain and newly appointed Kuwaiti Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ali Tunyan Abdul Wahab Hamadah, at the foreign ministry here, according to a ministry’s press release.

During the discussion, both sides emphasized the importance of ensuring safe and secure working conditions for Bangladeshi migrant workers, particularly female employees. 

The conversation also touched on expanding employment opportunities for skilled professionals, including medical practitioners, engineers, technicians, and IT specialists.

Reference was made to last year’s recruitment of 670 Bangladeshi nurses in Kuwait under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries. 

Both parties acknowledged this as a significant step in strengthening manpower cooperation and explored further avenues to deepen employment collaboration.

Beyond labor issues, the meeting also focused on enhancing bilateral relations in trade, investment, and economic cooperation. 

The Kuwaiti envoy reiterated his country’s willingness to expand cooperation across various sectors and highlighted the potential for increased bilateral trade and investment.

In response, Hossain stressed the strong ties and mutual understanding between Bangladesh and Kuwait. 

However, he noted that bilateral trade remains below its full potential despite the goodwill between the two nations. 

The adviser encouraged the Kuwaiti side to explore new business opportunities in Bangladesh and engage with major business communities, including the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to structured and strategic cooperation, with a focus on workforce security, trade, investment, and broader economic collaboration.
