DHAKA, Feb 4, 2025 (BSS) – The Department of Environment today conducted four mobile courts nationwide to prevent production, sale, distribution and marketing of banned polythene.
During the drive, the mobile courts also seized 13,423 kilograms of banned polythene, finned Taka 40,000 and lodged seven cases against the law violators, according to an official handout here.
Apart from this, four mobile courts were also conducted against illegal brick kilns in Narsingdi, Shariatpur, Narayanganj and Gazipur when they filed three cases and imposed fines of Taka 300,000.
In Shariatpur, a brick kiln manager was sentenced to six months imprisonment when operations of five brick kilns were shut down.
In Gazipur, authorities destroyed raw bricks from three kilns and fires in the brick kilns were extinguished with the help of the fire service department.
Additionally, a mobile court in Dhaka’s Agargaon area penalized vehicles for emissions of excessive black smoke while the court lodged four cases and imposed fine of Taka 10,000.
Mobile courts were conducted in capital’s Paltan, Shahbagh, Lalbagh and Agargaon areas to combat air pollution caused by construction materials. Six cases were filed and Taka 21,000 finned during the drive.
However, business owners were warned to comply with environmental regulations for the sake of ensuring healthy environment.
The Department of Environment has assured that such drives would continue to safeguard environmental health and public well-being.
