Reform Commission proposes forming Cumilla, Faridpur divisions

DHAKA, Feb 5, 2025 (BSS) - The Public Administration Reform Commission has proposed forming two more divisions – Cumilla and Faridpur divisions – in the country, Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder told media today.

He revealed this information at a press briefing in front of the State Guest House Jamuna here this afternoon.

Earlier of the day, Judiciary Reform Commission Chief Justice Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman and Public Administration Reform Commission Chairman Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury handed over their respective commissions' reports to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at Jamuna.

Members of the commissions were present on the occasion.

About the recommendations of the Public Administration Reform Commission, Azad said it has also suggested reducing the number of ministries and divisions to 25 and 40 respectively to ensure good governance.

The commission also recommended dividing the country into four provinces as it will help administrative and political decentralization of the country, he said.

Besides, the Deputy Press Secretary said the commission proposed changing the name of post “Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO)” to “Sub-District Commissioner (SDC)” and “District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner” to “District Magistrate & District Commissioner”.

Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, Deputy Press Secretary Apurba Jahangir and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad were present at the press briefing.
