DHAKA, Feb 5, 2025 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today asked the deputy commissioners (DCs) and UNOs to lease out the beels and baors (wetlands) to the real fishermen.
“The baors can’t be leased out to the non-fishing people,” she said while addressing a rally of the marginal farmers' as chief guest, organized by the Sammilito Khamari Parishad at the Haripur Government Primary School ground in Shailkupa Upazila, said a ministry release.
Mentioning that three ministries are working on the lease management, the adviser said that they are expecting this issue will be resolved soon.
She discouraged farmers to cultivate tobacco, saying other crops including rice should be cultivated on these lands.
Farida Akhter said that the country has milk but no storage, and that is why milk storage would be constructed by building a cattle hub.
“Arrangements will be made so that people can buy fresh milk directly from the farmers,” she added.
Assuring the farmers to solve their problems, the adviser said the current government is trying to create a healthy and humane environment. “Plans are being taken so that there will be no discrimination in the society.”
