DHAKA, Feb 4, 2024 (BSS) - A total of 98 new books hit the stalls of Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2025 today, 5th day of the fair which began on February 1.
Of the newly published books, 13 stories while 18 novels, six essays, 33 poems, four researches, two children's literature, two biographies, one essay, three plays, two science, one travel, two history, two politics, one treatment/health, one language, one religious and one translation were showcased in the stalls, a press release said.
A discussion titled 'Hosseinuddin Hossain: Prantobasi Biral Sahitya Sadhok' was held at the main stage of the book fair today.
Litterateur Shahid Iqbal presided over the discussion while litterateur Ahmed Mawla presented an article .
Terming Hosseinuddin Hossain as an extraordinary writer, Shahid Iqbal said although he (Hosseinuddin) cut his teeth on literary career with poetry, but he left a bright mark of his talent in the field of prose.
The imprint of intelligence and mindfulness is clear in his writing, Iqbal said, adding that he practiced honesty and dedication throughout his life.
In the 'Lekhak Bolchi Monch’ poet Rezauddin Stalin , writer and essayist Shibli Azad took part in the discussion on their new books.
A cultural programmee featured poetry recitations by poets Atahar Khan and Alamgir Hussain while evening’s cultural segment included the musical performances of artists Bulbul Islam, Md Arifur Rahman, Taposi Roy, Papri Barua , Farah Hasan Moutushi, Md Harunur Rashid, Kamal Ahmed and Nusrat Binte Noor.
This year, the fair hosts 99 stalls on the premises of Bangla Academy and 609 stalls at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan.
A total of 708 publishers are participating in the fair, which was 642 last year.
Visitors can visit the fair from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm every day. On holidays, it will remain open from 11:00 am.
The fair also features 37 pavilions-one at Bangla Academy and 36 at Suhrawardy Udyan. A space, designated to little magazines has been set up near the open stage of Suhrawardy Udyan.
The theme for this year's book fair is "July Gono Obbhuthyan: Notun Bangladesh Binirman" (The July Uprising: Rebuilding a New Bangladesh).
