DHAKA, Feb 8, 2025 (BSS) - Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr M
Sakhawat Hussain today said the government has a plan to construct a land
port in Ghumdhum of Naikhongchhari upazila under Bandarban district, as he
visited the possible site.
"I've seen the border road. I've seen the site for the construction of a land
port. There are plans for this," he said while talking to the media during
the inspection of the site.
He added, "We'll look into the future and see whether a land port can be
built there."
The Shipping Adviser said that the land route is more convenient than the sea
route with Myanmar's Rakhine State and the Trans-Asian road in Ghumdhum is
easy for the two countries for communication.
"We have a port in Teknaf with Myanmar, and I'll look at that place," he
added.
Regarding the trade deficit, Sakhawat Hussain said, "You know why there was a
deficit with Myanmar...Import of goods had decreased slightly due to the
conflict inside Myanmar, and it will return to normalcy depending on the
situation."
Bangladesh Land Port Authority Chairman Manzarul Mannan, Cox's Bazar
Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdullah Yamin, and Cox's Bazar 34 BGB
Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Faruk Hossain Khan, among others, were
present.
