DHAKA, Feb 9, 2025 (BSS) - Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police
(DMP) has arrested three active members of a robber and snatcher gang from
the capital's Jatrabari area.
The arrested were Md. Sajjad Hossain alias Saiful, 30, Md. Rabbi Hossain
alias Bocha Rabbi, 27, and Md. Ratul, 22, said a DMP media release here
today.
It said a team of the DB, Wari Division conducted a raid in Shonir Akhra area
at 04:50 am on Sunday and arrested the individuals.
Police said, on February 3, a passenger got down from a bus coming from
Chittagong in front of Kutubkhali Dagukhan Government Primary School in South
Jatrabari at about 4:30 am.
Some unidentified miscreants, waiting there already, swooped on the person
and hit him repeatedly with knives, machetes and other sharp weapons and
forcibly snatched cash, mobile phones and other valuable belongings. The
video of this incident was widely circulated on social media.
DB with the help of CCTV footage around the scene, intelligence information
and technology was able to identify the miscreants.
At the initial interrogation, the miscreants confessed that they used to
block the paths of pedestrians at night in different areas of the capital
including Jatrabari and Shonir Akhra and snatch valuables by threatening them
with sharp weapons and hitting them also.
The move to round up their accomplices and other absconding people involved
in the incident is ongoing.
Police said they all are wanted in different cases.
