764 officials get retrospective promotion

DHAKA, Feb 09, 2025 (BSS) - The interim government today gave retrospective promotion to 764 retired officials of various levels who were deprived during the Awami League regime.

The public administration ministry has issued five separate gazette notifications in this regard.

The promotions were covered the civil servants with the ranks of deputy secretary, joint secretary, additional secretary, grade 1 officer and secretary, the gazettes said.

Out of the 764 promoted officials, 119 have been promoted to the rank of secretary, 41 to the rank of Grade-1, 528 to additional secretary rank, 72 to joint secretary rank and four to deputy secretary rank, the gazettes said.

Earlier, a review committee recommended for the retrospective promotion of the retired officials as they applied to the government for promotion for being deprived of their rights during the AL regime.

Around 1500 retired officials applied for promotion and the scrutiny committee recommended for promotion of 764 officers based on their merit.

The gazettes stated that officers will get all financial benefits as per the rules from the date of retrospective promotions as per rules.

As per gazettes 50 percent of their outstanding dues will be given in the current fiscal year, while the remaining 50 percent will be given in the next fiscal year.

It further said that concerned officials will be considered to have remained in service as an officer on special duty in the last promoted post until their retirement age.

Retrospective promoted officers will be considered to have retired from government service on the date fixed for retirement after the completion of post-retirement leave or retirement preparation leave, gazettes said.

Officers will get financial benefits by adjusting their arrears of salary, allowances and pension as per rules.

The PRL or LPR orders issued earlier for the promoted officers have been cancelled. The PRL or RPL will be adjusted at the time of fixing their salary, the gazette said.
