DHAKA, Feb 11, 2025 (BSS) – Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today underscored the need for taking stern action to stop illegal polythene production and its transportation.
"Strict measures must be taken to stop illegal polythene production and transportation. Effective initiatives are needed to prevent water and air pollution and use of single-use plastic must be reduced," she said.
The adviser said these at a workshop at Rajarbagh Police Lines Auditorium here as the chief guest, a press release said.
The topic of the workshop was 'The Importance of Implementing Laws to Protect Human Rights and the Environment in the Changing Situation of the Country’, the release added.
Rizwana, also the water resources adviser, said that development is necessary, but it must be done by protecting the environment and human rights.
"If effective laws are not implemented, the environment will be destroyed and people will be affected,' she added.
He urged the administration, law enforcement agencies and civil society to work together to ensure effective law and order in the country.
Government officials, representatives of law enforcement agencies, environmentalists and human rights activists participated in the workshop.
