DHAKA, Feb 11, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas has urged the interim government and law enforcers to focus on tracking down the real ‘devils’ within the government offices and administration.
“The government’s decision to launch Operation Devil Hunt is a time befitting initiative. However, instead of searching for devils in forests and jungles, the government must find those hiding in public offices,” he said.
Mirza Abbas was addressing a seminar titled ‘Tarique Rahman’s 31-Point State Structure Reform Proposal and Public Engagement’, organized by Mugda Thana unit of Dhaka South City BNP, near the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Mustafa Kamal Stadium this afternoon.
He said, “The devils of Awami League are still sitting in all government offices, from the union office to the DC office, the secretariat, and other institutions. They are the ones trying to lead this government astray.”
Referring to BNP’s demand for elections as logical, Mirza Abbas said there is no room for criticism on this issue.
“BNP has been fighting for people’s voting rights for the past 15 years. Countless leaders and activists have shed blood and sacrificed their lives. Therefore, BNP has demanded elections at a logical time to restore the people’s right to vote,” he said.
Criticizing the plan for local government elections, he said, “Some want to hold local elections before the national election. But they do not realize that the Awami fascists who are currently in hiding will use these local elections as an opportunity to re-emerge. This is their sinister conspiracy.”
Mentioning BNP Secretary General’s meeting with the Chief Advisor, Mirza Abbas thanked Dr Muhammad Yunus for confirming the national election by December next and warned that any attempt by any quarter to delay it by pushing for local body elections first would be strongly opposed.
He said, “We thank the Chief Adviser for announcing that the election will be held by December during his meeting with our Secretary General on Monday. We hope the election will take place by December if there is no plot to foil it.”
Chaired by Dhaka South City BNP Convener Rafiqul Alam Maznu, it was also addressed by Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal President Afroza Abbas, BNP Foreign Affairs Committee Member Ishraque Hossain, BNP Executive Committee Member Habibur Rashid Habib and Dhaka South City BNP Member Secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin.
